Phoenix Coding Academy in the High Rising Schools of Phoenix.
This innovative small, specialty school, focused on computer coding and multiple technology pathways through an inquiry-based instructional design, is one of the first public high schools of its kind. Opened in 2016, students receive a full high school curriculum of core academic classes and electives, as well as Career and Technical Education areas such as software development, web design, networking, information security, engineering and entrepreneurship to meet the workforce demands of the booming technology sector. Students are encouraged to think, solve and create with their school-issued laptops, multi-platform computer labs, and in a maker space with 3D printers, plasma cutters, laser engravers, programmable circuit boards and other technical equipment. Community and industry partnerships facilitate guest instructors, workshops, field trips, mentoring, job-shadowing and internships.
Inquiry design and project-based learning provide the instructional framework, innovation, and computer science are the focus, and academic courses are integrated to offer a dynamic, student-centered academic experience. Students will receive a full high school curriculum of core academic classes and electives, including Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes at Phoenix Coding Academy. Community and industry partnerships will facilitate guest instructors and workshops, field trips, mentors and job-shadowing, and internships for students and staff. CTE pathways such as software development, web design, networking, information security, engineering, and entrepreneurship related to the technology industry will not only provide select industry certification and college dual enrollment but will also prepare the students for success in college, career, and life.
